EFT for Diet, Boredom and Smoking

By Brian Rohr

Here is a fun story that really proved to me the power and amazing usefulness of EFT when it comes to helping overcome a dependency on food and tobacco.  This occurred in 2007 at a spa I was working for doing Massage and Energywork in Chicago.

During break, I asked a co-worker how she was.  She exclaimed with a pout that she was hungry.  I offered to get her some food, to which she replied that it was the first day of her new diet, and she had already eaten her afternoon snack.  Oy, what to do?  Being obsessed with EFT and wanting to both introduce it to everyone, as well as investigate if the claims made about the potential of this healing modality have any viability in the real world, I asked her if she wanted to do EFT to try and help her craving.

She agreed and we did one round of tapping on her hunger. After that round, she replied that really she wasn’t hungry, instead the truth was that she was bored.  So we did a round of tapping on her boredom.  After that round, she replied, really it wasn’t boredom so much as she had just quit smoking that day as well, and she really wanted a cigarette.

(At this point, I am going to interject that this is a common phenomena when working with EFT.  There is sometimes this daisy chain effect that will happen where the client will say, “____ was not really a problem, the real problem is _____.”   The truth is that indeed the first thing we were working on was a problem, but now that EFT has helped take care of it, the emotional intensity is not there, and one can then focus on what it may have been covering up or blocking from being noticed.)

So we next tapped on her craving for a cigarette, and I would not have believed it if I was not witnessing it with my own eyes, after that round she said she was fine.  No boredom, no craving for food, no desire for a cigarette, nothing.  She was at peace.  I was amazed and still am, especially as all of this occurred in less than 10 minutes.

Did this lack of craving for food or cigarette last forever?  To be honest, I did not ask her later, and she never mentioned it again.  Often times though, no, when dealing with , the cravings do come back (though it is not unheard of for it to go away forever after a couple of rounds).  This is because the cause of the anxiety, which is what brings about the craving, may still be present in ones life.  But what an amazing gift EFT can be for the person who is going on a diet, or trying to quit smoking, or alcohol, or drugs, or TV, or too many hours on the computer, or anything that has moved into the dependancy mode.

While it may not ‘cure’ you right away from the dependancy, it now gives you a choice.  Whenever a craving comes, you have the choice to give in, to suffer, or to use EFT to try and bring the craving down in a matter of minutes.
